Orthodontics

Whether it’s traditional braces or custom made removable appliances, orthodontics can help you have the healthy, straight, beautiful smile you’ve been waiting for! Give us a call today and schedule your orthodontic consultation!

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry specializing in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of jaw, face and bite irregularities (malocclusions*). Orthodontic treatment is provided by an oral health care provider known as an orthodontist, who has completed two to three years of additional training beyond dental school. Recent years have brought about many changes within the dental industry, specifically with regards to orthodontic treatment and care.

Now more than ever patients are experiencing fewer incidences of cavities and missing teeth due to the heightened awareness of fluoride use and preventative dentistry. This increasing awareness on the health and look of a patient’s smile has fueled the desire for many to seek out orthodontia not only as a medical necessity, but for cosmetic reasons as well. *Malocclusion is the technical term for teeth that don’t fit together correctly.

Malocclusions not only affect the teeth, but also the appearance of the face. Most malocclusions are inherited; however some are due to acquired habits such as thumb sucking and tongue thrusting. The spacing left from an adult tooth being extracted or an early loss of a baby tooth can also contribute to a malocclusion.

Consider Invisalign treatment to get the beautiful straight teeth you’ve always wanted — without braces. A consultation with Dr. Phipps can determine if Invisalign clear aligners are right for you.

Invisalign

What is it?

Invisalign can improve your smile—and your health—by putting your teeth in their optimal positions for better aesthetics, chewing power, and gum health.

Invisalign treatment uses a series of virtually invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that allow you to smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign clear aligners are made with 3D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective. More than 70% of dentists and orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to administer Invisalign treatment.

Why would I want it?

Not only are the aligners virtually invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also more comfortable than traditional braces because they don’t use metal or wires. Invisalign treatment also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete. Many Invisalign cases take less than a year and can be more affordable than you may think!

How does it work?

You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to their final positions.

You’ll visit our Seattle dental office about once every six weeks so Dr. Phipps can make sure that your treatment is progressing as planned and give you a new set of aligners. Total treatment time averages six to 24 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

Why choose Invisalign at Mark D. Phipps, DDS?

We offer Invisalign at our Seattle dental office for the convenience of our busy patients and their families. Between our Invisalign team, Dr. Phipps, our patients receive superior treatment from a family dentist they trust! Most of our patients live or work close by and love the convenience of coming to the same office where they have their cleanings and restorative treatment done.
